A Thirsty Reflection from the Covenant Harvest Blog Series | Getting on the Right Side of History

Image
Genesis 6:3   "My Spirit will not always strive with man, for he is flesh; yet his days will be a hundred and twenty years."   Man's wickedness was great. Judges 10:6   Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord.   They worshipped the Baals, the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Syria, Sidon, Moab, the Ammonites, and the Philistines.  They abandoned the Lord and did not serve Him.   AGAIN, occurs about 16 times in this historical text nearly half reflect wickedness and the other half reflect attempts by man to get right with the Lord for deliverance, yet even the heroes were wicked in our hindsight view.    Judges 10:7   The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites.   Sounds like " will not always strive with man " to me. Judges 2:14   The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of those who plundered them; and H...

A Thirsty Reflection from the Covenant Harvest Blog Series | Permanency of Presence is Temporary

Image
Then the Lord said to him, "But I will be with you, and  you will strike the Midianites as one man."  ~Judges 6:16 MEV I WILL BE WITH YOU ...   All those who sincerely & persistently depend on God will experience the power and peace of God's active presence.  Jesus himself makes this promise to NT believers (Mt 28:19-20) (MEV). Our commitment to each other as His church, initially had a sense of arrival in the beginning.  My imagination indicates that this sense of 'arrival' is fading, and reality is settling in.  Despite knowing beforehand that physical proximity would remain a challenge, we jumped in the water together figuratively.  We knew that this distance between us is closing but not yet closed.  Knowing this ahead of the 'jump' and now in the cold water, it doesn't make the separation any easier. As a hired Shepherd, I find it important to never become a substitute for the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ himself.  L...

Sermon Series: Love

Love-Gifts & Orderliness of Worship   "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.  2  And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.  3  And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.  4  Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6  Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7  Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.  8  Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they sh...

Turnover Sermon | Grabbing the Torch (9/3/23)

Image
Grabbing the Torch   Each of us carries the fire imputed within.  If you’re Christian, you carry this fire within.  A fire placed there by God.  Today we pass the baton like that of a relay race.  It’s a baton with fire & smoke.  Like that of the Israelites if you will.  We carry the message of eternal life & death.  You can say that it’s a hot topic in the world!   Ministry is a marathon relay race.  Winning requires Teamwork.  Strength & Conditioning.  Stamina.  Endurance.  Confidence.  Balance.  Flexibility.  Communication, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, & Accuracy.  All of these areas of spiritual conditioning must be explored and integrated into the character of the competitors.  The person passing the torch or baton needs to know that the receiver is ready.  They both need to know where to meet & when.  They need to know who.  We need to know ...

Know Your Value | Identity

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom & instruction” -Solomon Proverbs 1:7 MSV Many are Called but Few are Chosen.      Have you heard the call to serve God yet?  Some of us don't accept the call to cull our ministry directed from God above in turn discovering that we are chosen. Let us fulfill the call from God!      After operating as an Active Duty Sailor for 20 years, I'm preparing for transition to the civilian sector of employment.  Creating splash pages for my resume has led to sharing some tools that have helped me understand the call of God.      Here I share with you some observations made along the journey of introspective hardship and deliberate exercises to make personal change and growth in the area of personal & professional character development.      Maybe like me you've heard it said, "all are called but few are chosen".  Well in answerin...
